Description
Makassar Ebony Lounge is a day bed that has roots in minimalism and Art Deco. The lounge features a large bent lamination whose exquisite veneer utilizes makassar ebony. The Center of Makassar Ebony Lounge upholstery is tan nu buck leather. The forms pre shape with fabric before the final nu buck leather is put on. The base is 6160 solid aircraft grade aluminum. The legs have a custom mortise and tenon and are epoxy into the top lamination. There is 2 cross members connecting each leg and two additional aluminum rails that connect each rail that connects the legs.
There are 3 trends from a design perspective that run through this piece. First is the dentil detail that shows up on the edge of the Lounge in the form of solid wenge and maples squares make up the dentil detail. Upholstery would be the second design trend that show up throughout my work.  Finally, the welded aluminum frame or the use of aluminum as a material runs concurrently in my work. There are several examples that exhibit this perfectly; https://www.cosmobarbaro.com/product/minimal-stool/

Wikipedia defines upholstery as the following; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upholstery “Upholstery is the work of providing furniture, especially seats, with padding, springs, webbing, and fabric or leather covers. The word also refers to the materials used to upholster something.”
